Many people experience strong, offensive body odour which makes them uncomfortable.
It is embarrassing to have friends sit meters away from you because they are trying to shield their nose from the strong smell emanating from your body.
Apart from embarrassing you, body odour can be an indication of medical problem.

What causes body odour?

1. Body odour arises if sweat mixes with bacteria found on the skin.
2. Poor peronal hygiene can also bring about body odour.
3. Medical problems like liver disease, diabetes and genetic metabolic disorders.
Here are home remedies to employ in getting rid of strong body odour.

1. Lemon juice

Lemon juice, given its acidic property, lowers the pH of the skin. Lowering the pH of the skin makes it difficult for bacteria to grow on the skin.
Cut a fresh lemon into two halves and squeeze out the juice in one half into half a cup of water. Apply the mixture to your armpit. Wash with cool water after 30 minutes. Repeat this daily until the odour subsides.

2. Baking soda

Baking soda is a natural deodorant. It absorbs moisture from the skin and helps to reduce body odour.
Mix a tablespoon of baking soda with a tablespoon of fresh lemon juice. Apply the mixture to your underarm and leave for 30 minutes. Wash off and take your shower. Repeat this daily until you notice an improvement.

3. Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is a powerful antibacterial agent which helps rid the body of bacteria producing body odour.
Mix one cup of apple cider vinegar with your bath water. Soak yourself in this water for 15 minutes daily for two weeks.

4. Bath daily

Take your bath at least twice a day. This will clean sweat and reduce the bacteria on your skin. The lesser the number if bacteria, the less likely you are to have body odour.
Wash thoroughly, areas like armpit, the neck and your genital area. These areas are prone to excessive sweating.

5. Keep your body dry

Bacteria grow in a moist, warm environment. Keeping your body dey as much as possible will prevent growth of odour-causing bacteria.
After shower, towel off thoroughly especially the areas prone to sweating.

6. Change your diet

Foods such as garlic and onions can make you smell bad when you sweat. Eliminate these foods from your diets. Also, avoid alcoholic and caffeinated drinks.
